  • A living, breathing green monster has completely taken over the mighty river within the Selva De Fuego, river jungle paludarium ant kingdom of the Fire Nation, our massive fire ant colony. It has taken lives of creatures living in the river and has even begun to kill the aquatic plants. What is this river monster? Today you will find out. Watch how I weaken and eventually kill it with the perfect team of green monster assassins.

Algae needs light and nitrates to grow. Nitrates are the end results protein (dead ants, ant feces, plant leaves and food particles) decomposing in the water. You need to monitor your nitrate levels and probably increase the amount and frequency of you water changes. You can buy a nitrate test kit for around $10 US in any good aquarium shop. Try to keep the nitrate levels below 10 PPM. You also might want to dim the lights for a week or so if you have another outbreak. The guppies were a good choice for ant body control anything better like cichlids would also like a shrimp dinner. Any of the smaller species of pleco would also help with the algae control. DO NOT get a common pleco. They get WAY to big for that tank. Also a cory catfish (Corydoras species) would make a good garbage man. I personally like the spotted corys. One last thing you might want to invest in a reverse osmosis water filtering system for all your insects. A RO removes all the impurities and leaves you with a very pure water with no contaminants or minerals and is as pure as unpolluted rain water. A good system cost around $150 US and can make 50 gallons a day of pure water. It also would prevent mineral buildup on your spraying systems.

You need water volume. You do not have enough dilution. Having the ants throwing their garbage and dead is over loading your system. And with only 20 gallons in the river it both cannot have a large enough cycle and enough dilution to keep the water beasts safe. Idk how close your planted tank is to the salvia de fuego but I would suggest connecting them together. Because the tank is well established and had lots of thriving plants. And it would increase the total volume of both systems.
